Day 4 Iceland

Today was my first day in Iceland. It started off terribly. After waiting outside at the bus stop for 2hrs, I called the tour company. Turns out they weren't coming as there was an error with my booking! They arranged for someone to pick me up & drive me down south to meet the tour group. It was dark until nearly 11am. We drive south, stopping at Skargarfoss waterddall for some photos. It's a huge & beautiful but boy was it icy! We slipped & slid the whole way from the carpark to the viewing point.

Next we continued to Reysnafara black sand beach. We met the rest of the group here. The beach is beautiful, all basalt sands.

We went to Vik for lunch. I have been told that the only good meat in Iceland is seafood or lamb. So I had a lamb shank for lunch. It was great! I explored the beach there before we left.

Next we drove up the east coast, stopping at a scenic lookout for photos. Then we continued to our hotel. Immediately after check in I noticed something out my window.  It was the Northern Lights!! I was super excited! My group members & I took our tripods & cameras & spent the next hour outside trying to get good photos. We ended up climbing a small hill to eliminate as much light as possible. They were beautiful! Three interesting thing is, to the naked eye they look like a white whispy smear in the sky, but when you take a photo, the intense green color come out. Now its bedtime. Tomorrow we are going to a lagoon to see icebergs & seals (hopefully!). Then hiking the glacier that sits on the volcano that has just woken up after 300yrs. Confession: that makes me nervous as it could erupt at anytime & we will be hiking on it!
